BIA Second Wheelchair Marathon 2018

BIA Foundation successfully organized the 2nd BIA Wheelchair Marathon in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu on March 4, 2018. With a distance of 4.5 km to cover, the marathon is for the participants with disabilities using wheelchair. This marathon is aimed towards encouraging the sports interests of people with disabilities while also making the general public witness the enthusiasm and capabilities of the so-called disabled people.

The event witnessed an impressive participation of 183 participants including both male and female participants. Among all the participants, three winners from each category were awarded with cash prize of Rs 25000, Rs 15000 and Rs 10000 respectively. Prem Bahadur Bk (Male) and Yami Jhakri Magar (Female) secured the first position. Likewise, Ramesh Khatri (Male) and Rajani Rai (Female) secured the second position and Pawan Gurung (Male) and Lila Tamang (Female) secured third position.

Minister Lal Babu Pandit, Ministry of Population and Environment attended as the Chief Guest, DIG Sarbendra Khanal, Metropolitan traffic police division as the Special Guest and Deepak Sapkota, the Country Director of Karuna Foundation as Guest. Since this marathon is organized coinciding with the birthday of our founder/ president, it was a great pleasure to have our founder/president Chogyal Rinpoche at the event this year.

The event was supported by Crystal Castle & Shambala Gardens, Karuna Foundation Nepal, Dish Home, Sertshang Orphanage Home, Nepal Disabled Association and Nepal Buddhist Association.

The enthusiasm and the willingness in the players were commendable and hence, we are very thankful for their contribution in making this event a success. Besides that, we express our deep gratitude to all the supporters, traffic police division, media person, volunteers, friends and well-wishers for their valuable support to this event.
