The second edition of BIA Awards was organized at the BIA Foundation premises, on Monday, August 27, 2018 to mark the 4th year anniversary of our organization. In the event, people with disabilities showcased their musical and dance acts amid the presence of dignitaries from various sectors of the society.
The BIA Award 2018 was presented to Mr. Daya Ram Maharjan, a resident of Bungmati. Mr. Maharjan is the Founder of Disabled Service Association who is involved in nurturing children with physical disabilities. He was honored with the award and a cash prize of Rs 100,000 by the chief guests, Tham Maya Thapa – Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, and Peter Budd – Australian ambassador to Nepal.
The BIA Award is our initiation to recognize, appreciate, encourage and support the efforts of people and organizations working for the people with disabilities. Since our inception, we’ve always worked to rehabilitate, and reestablish people with disabilities by making them capable enough to sustain their life beyond the organization, by providing them with skills development training. Supporting every physically challenged people would be great but doing it at once is not possible for anyone. So, while we are doing our part to support the people within BIA through our activities, we wish to support and encourage those outside BIA through the BIA Award and the cash prize that comes with it. We hope to see all the physically challenged people enjoy a life they wish to live. And as our Founder Chogyal Rinpoche says, “Help others; Life is beautiful.”
